In September 2017, the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) will be held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. It will be first time that an Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) event has been held in Turkmenistan and Trivandi is proud to be at the heart of it.
Turkmenistan is located in the western part of Central Asia. Its immediate neighbors include Iran, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and on its western border is the Caspian Sea looking across to Azerbaijan and Russia. It is a fascinating country comprising a diverse landscape of mountains, fertile plains, desert, the Caspian coast and of course its capital, Ashgabat: a city which is known as the ‘Pearl of Central Asia’.
The Games were awarded to Ashgabat when the host city contract was signed at a ceremony in Kuwait on December 19, 2010. As well as the 45 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of the OCA, there will be 17 NOCs from Oceania including Australia, Fiji and New Zealand, together with seven associate members of the Oceana NOCs.
It is a large and complex multi-sport event which includes sports as diverse as Indoor Athletics, Swimming, Chess and Dance Sports.
In June 2016 Trivandi was appointed, along with our JV partners, Chanzo as the official Operator for Games Planning and Delivery for the AIMAG event.
Our role encompasses all elements of Games planning and operations and carries the unprecedented challenge of planning and delivering a major multi-sport event in less than 500 days. To achieve this we are building a world class team comprising over 280 international experts, 400 local staff and 8000 volunteers to deliver the operations and preparations for the event. Under the leadership of esteemed President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow we are working in partnership with our delivery partners from the Ministries of Turkmenistan and numerous other stakeholders to deliver a spectacular AIMAG in 2017.
The video below has been produced by our team and contains background on our planning for the AIMAG 2017 event.
The 5th AIMAG will take place in the ‘Olympic Village’, a hugely impressive multi-purpose sports facility which has been constructed in the capital. This complex includes over 30 different facilities including spectacular sports venues, social-living accommodation, transportation facilities and other infrastructure.
